Hitman & Quantum break spearhead the move to DX12 in PC gaming
There's been many theories as to why the adoption of DX12 is taking as long as it is with titles such as Rise of the Tomb Raider actually having the newer rendered replaced with a DX11 renderer for it's PC release after teaming up with Nvidia. Currently AMD's GCN architecture is the only option with full hardware support while Nvidia relies on there software to support it giving AMD a distinct advantage at this time. While rumours circulate that that is why Nvidia got involved with Rise of the Tomb Raiders development it's also important to remember that DX12 is Win10 only and Win 10's current adoption level may in fact have been the deciding factor in the decision to downgrade it allowing it's use on PC's running Win 7, 8 & 8.1 from release, This is also supported by new information that suggests that a DX12 option may be coming in a future update. However no such concern has been shown for the Microsoft supported Quantum break title due to release in April on X-box and PC through the Windows store.
